Lighting with Standard A LightBulbs

Lighting choices for standard incandescent bulbs come in a variety of styles, bases and color rendering. Standard medium base A bulbs provide a soft, warm uniform illumination through a glass globe. Typically rated by lamp performance that are based on bare bulb photometrics, provided by manufacturers. They are generally used in most ceiling and wall fixtures creating a bright, spacious feel for general illumation.

Standard A medium base bulbs tend to produce irregular beam shapes that creat shadows, which would not be appropriate in certain locations. By using in indirect fixtures, such as wall sconces, will help to enlighting an area and eliminating unnatural shadows.

They should not be used in track or recess fixtures, they tend to trap the lite and heat. These will not provide sufficient illumination and could cause the fixture to overheat. Damaging the socket perhaps even the fixture. If using for indirect illumination they will help to eliminate unnatural shadows.

Decorative A medium base bulbs or globe bulbs are coated to cut down on glare. These bulbs are great replacements for regular A medium bulbs in kitchen and bathroom fixtures that point down filling in the area of the inner glass globe making them more attractive. When fixtures glass face up it better to use the regular medium bases A bulbs. They provide more lumins to illuminate the area.
